On June 17th we had the pleasure to host Windstar Cruise guests in Dubrovnik and showcase authentic local culture and hospitality during their stay with us. The group was transported from Gruz Port to Old Town Dubrovnik where they were able to enjoy a program we had put together just for this occasion in Lazareti, one of the most important historic sites located in the Old Town harbor.
Guests learned the history of Lazareti, which was a quarantine facility and one of Dubrovnik Republic’s greatest defense points against any disease that could have been imported via incoming ships. The beautiful medieval site is completely renovated and serves as a culture center and multi use space with inspiring views of the Old Town harbor, city walls and the Adriatic Sea.
Upon arrival the group was greeted with a welcome drink, while local fare such as prosciutto and cheese were enjoyed through the event. There really is no better way to get close to the local culture than through dance and song, so after refreshments, our guests enjoyed a famous local dance performance, the Lindjo.
This group dance is synonymous with Dubrovnik region all the way back to 18th century when it was used as a courting ritual. Men and women dressed in colorful local folklore costumes perform the dance to the sounds of local instrument, lirica. The dance is performed in a group with a main leader, the dance master, shouting out instructions to the dancers and is really entertaining to watch.
