Luxury cruise company Windstar Cruises added a new port to its schedule when its Wind Surf ship sailed into the town of Komiza on the island of Vis on Saturday.
The addition of the new port to Wind Surf's route forms part of Windstar President John Delaney's plan to inspire passengers to cruise multiple times a year with the introduction of new itineraries on a more regular basis.
The Croatian island regularly appears on lists of the most picturesque islands to visit and was the filming location for hit movie Mama Mia 2.
Captained by Remi Andre Eriksen, Wind Surf sailed into Komiza on Saturday morning for its inaugural visit with just over 300 passengers on board. Local ground operations were supplied by Adriatic DMC which works with Windstar Cruises in the Croatian ports of Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, Zadar, Opatija, and Rovinj.
Passengers were able to choose between a host of excursions offering the chance to experience the best of the beautiful island including Vis Island Gastro & History Tour, Blue Cave of Bisevo Island and Mama Mia Sea Kayaking.
Komiza Tourist Board director, Bogoljub Mitrakovic commented on Windstar's first arrival in Vis: “Wind Surf's arrival in Komiza is significant for both the town and island of Vis as a luxury cruise destination. We hope that passengers make the most of their time in port by exploring Komiza and Vis and their fascinating history, rich culture an unspoiled nature.“
Srdjan Kristic, managing director of Adriatic DMC, added: “We've been working with Windstar Cruises for many years, providing shore excursions and shipping agent services in Croatia and are delighted to be a part of the company's strategy to be the best in destination content and delivery.
“Croatia is a brilliant luxury small cruise ship destination thanks to its mix of historic towns, quaint villages and breathtaking nature all of which offer the opportunity to truly experience local culture up close. Vis is, without doubt, a desirable location for those looking for unspoiled nature and a laid back way of life making it the perfect fit for Windstar Cruises.“
