Adriatic DMC Slavonia operations manager, Tena Magdic, has been appointed vice president of the newly formed Osijek River Cruise Association following a vote by members of the Osijek Chamber of Commerce.
Magdic's appointment follows Adriatic DMC's successful expansion into shore excursion provision for international river cruise companies calling in the Croatian Danube ports of Aljmas, Vukovar, and Ilok as well as Osijek on the River Drava.
Commenting on her appointment, Magdic said, “Being able to share the hidden treasures of the region and work with communities to present their wonderful stories and traditions with an international audience is a real pleasure. I'm delighted to have been appointed to the board and am committed to the responsible development of tourism in Croatian Danube ports.
“This is a challenge that I relish and am proud to be with a company that recognizes the opportunity and potential of this area.”
The Osijek River Cruise Association was established to promote the development of all forms of river tourism; international river cruises, one-day river cruises, and domestic and international yachting.
Adriatic DMC managing director, Srdjan Kristic remarked, “We furthered our commitment to developing tourism in Slavonia in 2020 when we launched our tour guide training program in association with the University of Osijek.
“Funding students on the university's licensed tour guide course and conducting an in-house intensive training program that covered all aspects of the role was key to ensuring that river cruise passengers experience the best that Slavonia has to offer when on an excursion or tour.”
The number of berths of river cruisers increased by 53 percent in 2019 compared to 2018.
Bozana Matos, director of port development consultancy Ancoris, was appointed president of the association. She said, "All three potentials of river tourism development require the necessary coordination of all stakeholders and strategically designed development plans.
"Forecasts of ship and passenger traffic on cruises on the Danube and Drava in Croatia indicate further accelerated demand.
“Croatia, through a naturally developed system of inland waterways, has great potential for the development of river tourism, but despite that, river tourism was not managed in a coordinated manner, so this tourist potential is developed without clearly adopted strategic goals.”
